Amber Wind Alert for Storm Dave’s Impact on UK
Storm Dave is anticipated to unleash “strong winds that may cause disruption and damage” across the UK, prompting the Met Office to issue an amber wind warning for Saturday evening. This alert, encompassing northern England, north-west Wales, and southern Scotland, will commence at 19:00 BST and remain active until 03:00 on Sunday.
Additional yellow wind and snow alerts are already active, effective from Saturday afternoon. These warnings signal the arrival of a turbulent Easter weekend, with gusts potentially reaching 60-70 mph in several regions. In coastal and open areas, wind speeds could surge to 80 mph, according to the Met Office.
“Drivers should remain vigilant on elevated, open stretches and exercise heightened caution when passing tall vehicles, as sudden wind shifts can create unexpected challenges,” stated RAC representative Rod Dennis.
Residents are being urged to minimize outdoor activity and secure any loose objects before the warnings take effect. The Met Office warned that flying debris could pose risks of injury or even threaten lives, alongside potential travel delays and power outages.
