ToggleEamonn Holmes ‘doing OK’ after stroke, his son says
Declan Holmes, the son of veteran broadcaster Eamonn Holmes, shared that his father is “showing signs of improvement” following a recent stroke. The update came as part of a social media post, where he also expressed gratitude for the well-wishes received from fans and loved ones.
“We’re proceeding cautiously, focusing on maintaining stability for the 66-year-old GB News presenter,” Declan stated, adding that the event had been a “surprise” for the family. He emphasized the importance of privacy during this time, though he acknowledged the emotional support from the public.
GB News confirmed Holmes’s hospitalization after the stroke, which occurred last week. The network noted that the presenter was “responding positively to medical care” as he continues his recovery.
A broadcasting career spanning decades
Before joining GB News in 2022, Holmes was a prominent figure on ITV’s *This Morning*, where he frequently co-hosted with Ruth Langsford, whom he married in 2010. The couple announced their separation in 2024, with a representative confirming that their “marriage has ended and they are pursuing divorce.”
Throughout his career, Holmes has navigated various health challenges, including spinal surgery and a double hip replacement. He has also discussed his ongoing efforts to manage mobility, often relying on a scooter to assist with movement.
Understanding strokes: symptoms and impact
According to NHS guidelines, a stroke occurs when blood flow to a part of the brain is cut off, leading to potential neurological issues. Symptoms may include facial drooping, arm weakness, or speech difficulties, as noted by the organization.
GB News’s chief executive, Angelos Frangopoulos, described Holmes as a “cherished member of the team” and pledged to support his recovery. The statement highlighted the network’s commitment to being “by his side through every stage of his rehabilitation.”
