Man Arrested Following Infant’s Fatal Dog Bite in Redcar
Cleveland Police confirmed the arrest of a 45-year-old man after a three-month-old girl succumbed to injuries sustained in what is suspected to be a dog attack in Redcar. The incident occurred at an address on Hardale Grove, Dormanstown, around 1:30 PM BST on Thursday. Officers responded to the scene with firearms after receiving urgent reports about a child in danger.
During the operation, two dogs were neutralized—one on the street and another at the property. The man was taken into custody on suspicion of allowing a dog to act dangerously out of control, leading to the child’s death. He has since been released on conditional bail. Authorities indicated that the infant’s demise was attributed to a canine attack, though the exact circumstances are under review.
A 31-year-old woman was also bitten during the event and received medical attention. Both dogs were evaluated by a specialist officer, who stated there was no evidence they belonged to a prohibited breed. Ch Supt Rachel Stockdale, head of local policing, emphasized the ongoing police monitoring at the location as the probe continues. She added,
“Our thoughts remain with the child’s family during this heartbreaking time. I urge the public to respect their privacy while the investigation unfolds.”
