Law enforcement sources confirmed that the individual suspected of fatally shooting two people and injuring 14 others during an early Sunday attack on a downtown Austin bar had a documented history of mental health challenges. The suspect, Ndiaga Diagne, a 53-year-old Senegalese national who later became a U.S. citizen, resided in Pflugerville. He was dressed in a sweatshirt with the phrase “Property of Allah” and a shirt featuring an Iranian flag design at the time of the incident.
Shooting Details and Police Response
Following the attack, officers shot and killed Diagne shortly after the violence erupted. While investigators are still determining the possible motive, they are examining whether the assault could be linked to terrorism. Officials described Diagne as a lone actor with no known state affiliations, though some indicators suggest a potential connection to terrorist activities.
