With the UK basking in pleasant weather this week, it’s hard not to imagine the vibrant festival scene approaching. While Glastonbury takes a break this year, fans still have a wide array of options to explore. From bustling line-ups to fresh festival concepts, the summer calendar is packed with choices for all tastes.
Major Events to Watch
Reading and Leeds Festival, running from 27 to 30 August, promises a stellar roster of British and Irish acts. Charli XCX, Chase & Status, Dave, Florence + The Machine, Fontaines D.C., and Raye will headline, while Leeds adds a Thursday night exclusive with Kasabian. For those craving a coastal escape, Boardmasters in Cornwall will feature Fatboy Slim, Lily Allen, and The Kooks from 5 to 9 August.
If you’re drawn to indie anthems, TRNSMT in Glasgow offers a three-day experience without the camping hassle, featuring CMAT, Wolf Alice, and Two Door Cinema Club between 19 and 21 June. Meanwhile, BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend returns to Sunderland, showcasing Olivia Dean, Zara Larsson, and Niall Horan from 22 to 24 May. For a single-day option, BST Hyde Park will host Maroon 5, Mumford & Sons, and Garth Brooks in late June and early July, perfect for those seeking a shower and a proper bed after the event.
New Festival Series
This year sees the launch of fresh festival concepts. Roundhay in Leeds kicks off its inaugural shows in July, headlined by Pitbull and Lewis Capaldi. Similarly, Labyrinth on the Thames has made a splash with its striking backdrop at Greenwich’s Old Royal Naval College, featuring Dom Dolla, Peggy Gou, and Michael Bibi in August. State Fayre, a new festival for rock, country, and folk enthusiasts, will debut in 2026.
Lovebox makes a comeback after a seven-year absence, relocating to Margate, Kent, with a dance-focused lineup including Rudimental, Armand Van Helden, and Groove Armada on 29 and 30 May. Dance music lovers will also enjoy Creamfields in Cheshire, welcoming Swedish House Mafia, Martin Garrix, and Armin van Buuren from 27 to 30 August. Parklife in Manchester will draw attention with Calvin Harris, Skepta, and Sammy Virji on 20 and 21 June, while Boomtown in Hampshire hosts Skrillex, Four Tet, and Faithless from 12 to 16 August.
Rock and Alternative Highlights
Download Festival remains a top destination for rock and alternative fans, with Limp Bizkit, Guns N’ Roses, and Linkin Park taking center stage from 12 to 14 June. For an indie-packed weekend in the Lake District, Kendal Calling will feature Biffy Clyro, Wolf Alice, and The Libertines between 30 July and 2 August. Truck Festival in Oxfordshire brings together The Maccabees, The Wombats, and Kaiser Chiefs from 23 to 26 July, ensuring a diverse range of musical experiences across the season.
