Mel C shares update on Spice – The Spice Girls now “fully own” the rights to their 1997 film, Spice World , and plan to make the cult classic available for streaming in the “not too distant future”.

Melanie Chisholm, 52, known as Sporty Spice, shared the news on the Louis Theroux Podcast.

The film starred Chisholm alongside bandmates Geri Halliwell , Melanie Brown, Victoria Beckham , and Emma Bunton, portraying fictionalised versions of themselves preparing for a Royal Albert Hall concert.

It is celebrated for its absurd scenarios, such as Lady Beckham driving a bus with a bomb over an opening Tower Bridge , and features cameos from stars including Sir Elton John and Meat Loaf.

Chisolm explained: “It’s not available at the moment. It will be, because there were a lot of people that owned it. It was kind of all over the place. So we’ve had to come together.

“ The Spice Girls now fully own it, so we will be presenting it at some point in hopefully the not too distant future for people to enjoy.”

The comedy musical features flashbacks and dream sequences, as the group, who are shown at the start as being dissatisfied with the pressures of fame, also face a smear campaign.

Sir Roger Moore, Elvis Costello, Sir Stephen Fry, Richard E Grant and Jools Holland also make cameos in the film.

Chisholm also praised Halliwell and Brown for being the leaders of the band, adding if it were not for them the group would not have been as successful.

It would not come without its challenges, Chisholm said, adding that it could be especially difficult on the group if the pair had a fallout.

She said: “Getting into the inner workings of the band, like any group of people there’s a dynamic, and what was difficult for us was that Melanie (Melanie Brown) and Geri were really great mates, but if they had a fallout, it would affect everybody.

“I think because they were both so outspoken and myself, Emma, and Victoria, we didn’t have as much airtime as the other two girls. I don’t mean that in a thingy (public) sense, I mean, like, just in the room. So that would cause issues sometimes.

“If it wasn’t for Geri and Melanie being the way that they are, we wouldn’t have been as successful as we were.

“Geri is an incredible person to push things forward. She’s really smart. She’s very creative and she’s a little bit older. She’s a couple of years older than me.

“Melanie had worked as well as a dancer more than the rest of us, so they had a bit more world experience as well. They were the leaders.”

Chisholm said that as a team they were all very good at “self-policing” one another and make sure everyone stayed grounded.

Despite some ups and downs, she said the girl band are “very proud” they have remained friends decades on.

She said: “In some senses, we feel like it’s Geri’s band. I think maybe because she was the older one. She was a little bit more maternal as well. Sometimes that could be tricky, especially when you’re all becoming successful.

“You all have a profile in the public eye. I think any band can kind of be a little bit shook by that, but we were really good at self-policing.

“It was tough sometimes because we were really hard on each other. Not hard on each other in a mean way, but just like if someone was acting up a little bit, we’d just pull them back into the fold.

“It saved us in the long term. We are very proud that we remained friends. We’ve had our ups and downs, but no-one’s gone completely off the rails at any point really.”
