McGregor vs Holloway LIVE: UFC 329 Results & Updates
Traveloasisspot.com – The long-awaited return of Conor McGregor to the octagon takes place at UFC 329 in Las Vegas, where the Irish legend meets Max Holloway in the main event. McGregor makes his first appearance in five years after recovering from a severe leg injury suffered during his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier in July 2021. The card also showcases Paddy Pimblett’s return to competition, making this a compelling night of mixed martial arts action.
McGregor’s Comeback Journey
After years of speculation, McGregor’s return to fighting appears more serious than ever. The former two-division champion was initially set to come back in 2024 but had to pull out of his planned fight against Michael Chandler because of a toe problem. With adequate recovery time now behind him, McGregor wants to prove he can still perform at the highest level of professional combat sports.
Holloway represents a tough test for the Irishman. The Hawaiian fighter seeks redemption after his only career loss came against McGregor at a UFC Fight Night in 2013. Since that defeat, Holloway has fought eight times, securing impressive wins over Justin Gaethje and Dustin Poirier, the latter forcing retirement. The Hawaiian recently lost the BMF title to Charles Oliveira in March, which adds extra motivation to this headline bout.
Supporting Card Action
Before the main event, Paddy Pimblett takes on French contender Benoit Saint Denis in what should be an intense lightweight matchup. The Liverpool fighter returns under six months after his first UFC loss in a hard-fought five-round war against Justin Gaethje in January. That defeat ended Pimblett’s winning streak that dated back to his Cage Warriors days in 2018.
Although Pimblett failed to win the interim lightweight championship during that January fight, he hopes to earn another shot at Gaethje, who recently captured the undisputed lightweight belt with a stunning victory over Ilia Topuria at UFC Freedom 250 held at the White House last month.
On the early prelims, Brazilian flyweight Alessandro Costa earned the first result of the evening by submitting American Cody Durden via rear-naked choke in round two. Costa showed excellent grappling skills to secure his first UFC submission, even as Durden fought valiantly despite a bloody forehead wound.
Additionally, middleweight Ryan Gandra, known as ‘Problema,’ extended his winning run with another first-round finish. This victory marked Gandra’s fourth straight opening-round stoppage and his second in the UFC, following a 41-second debut win over Jose Medina in Mexico City. Gandra defeated Zachary Reese, training partner of champion Sean Strickland, with a powerful overhand left that dropped his opponent. The referee stepped in quickly as Gandra added more strikes, extending his nine-fight winning streak.
McGregor’s Pre-Fight Predictions
With McGregor’s return comes his signature confidence and love for bold predictions. During the final press conference before the fight, the Irishman shared several strong opinions about his upcoming match against Holloway.
“I can destroy Max inside 10 seconds,” McGregor stated confidently.
“I have knockouts inside three seconds on my record. I have Hall of Fame fighters, multiples, Hall of Fame UFC fighters, defeated and destroyed both together in under a minute. I can add Max to that.”
“However, don’t get it twisted, if we go into these deep waters Max is going to be in a lot of trouble. Badly concussed. I think his boxing is abysmal, I don’t rate it once. He has one gear and it’s not impressive. Very rarely have we seen magic inside the octagon from Max Holloway. Little evil Holloway. Saturday night, he gets destroyed.”
Forecasting the result of this main event is difficult considering how long McGregor has been away from competition. Both competitors bring distinct advantages to the octagon, creating what could rank among the most exciting matchups in recent UFC history.
