One in three participants revealed they spent between two hundred and fifty and four hundred and ninety-nine pounds during their most recent wedding engagement. The data indicates that more than a third of women covered the cost of their own bridesmaid dress or complete outfit. This figure rises to nearly half among women aged twenty-five to thirty-four, demonstrating that younger bridesmaids are bearing more of the financial responsibility. London-based women showed an even higher rate of self-funding at fifty-two percent, reflecting the capital city’s elevated cost of living and wedding expenses.

For those who purchased a bridesmaid dress but never wore it again, the primary obstacle was simply lacking a suitable occasion. Forty-two percent cited this as their main reason, while one in four found the dress too closely associated with the original wedding day to wear elsewhere.

Attitudes toward second-hand wedding fashion are shifting positively. Nearly two thirds of women who have been bridesmaids stated they would feel comfortable wearing a dress that had previously been worn by another bridesmaid. This acceptance reaches seventy percent among the twenty-five to thirty-four age bracket, indicating that younger generations are particularly open to sustainable fashion choices.

More than one in three women who have attended a wedding have already purchased second-hand outfits for such events. The motivations behind this trend are clear: sixty-nine percent want to save money, thirty-eight percent wish to avoid buying items they will only wear once, and thirty-five percent seek higher quality pieces at lower prices.

Eighty percent of women surveyed agreed that selling a bridesmaid dress after the wedding is perfectly acceptable behavior. This growing acceptance supports the vibrant second-hand market, where formal dresses are listed on Vinted for an average of eleven pounds. The most popular colors for bridesmaid dresses remain green, pink, and blue, reflecting traditional wedding palettes.
