Man Convicted of Throwing Girlfriend from Tower Block Receives Five-Year Sentence
Jordan Herring, a 22-year-old from Solihull, has been sentenced to five years in prison for wounding his girlfriend during a violent incident at Merton House, a tower block in Chelmsley Wood. The court heard that the 18-year-old victim, Bobbie Goodman, fell from the fourth-floor flat of Herring’s mother on November 20, 2022, sustaining serious injuries including a collapsed lung and fractures to her pelvis, spine, and ribs.
The emergency services were called over an hour after the incident, following a distraught 999 call from Herring’s mother, Kerrie-Anne Grogan. She told police: “I couldn’t call the ambulance… I should’ve done it ages ago but he’s my son. I’m scared he’s gonna get a knife and kill her.”
“It was very dehumanising,” Goodman told the BBC. “I couldn’t move, couldn’t walk, couldn’t wash myself. I really thought I might never walk again.”
Goodman, who spent a month in hospital and several additional weeks in a wheelchair, described her ordeal as life-altering. She added: “I have a lot of hatred for this man. He’s ruined my life in so many ways. He’s made me not want to trust another man ever again. But I hope someday, I will.”
Herring had already been convicted of coercive and controlling behavior toward Goodman in a prior trial. During the latest proceedings, he claimed the pair had a “toxic” relationship and that the incident stemmed from an argument about cheating. Officers emphasized their ongoing support for Goodman and praised her courage in recounting the abuse she endured.
Following the verdict, Herring was sentenced to a total of five years for both wounding and coercive behavior. The case underscores the severity of domestic violence and its impact on victims, even in high-rise settings.
