The singer shared that crucial medical appointments are occurring on the same day as the cancelled show, making it impossible for him to attend. He emphasized that this choice was not made without careful consideration.

There has been a major family health issue at home, and important appointments are taking place on that date. I simply can’t not be there. Family has to come first, and this wasn’t a decision I made lightly.

Smith acknowledged that numerous fans had invested considerable resources—financial and otherwise—to attend the Vancouver performance. He expressed deep gratitude for their continued support and loyalty.

I know many of you have spent your hard-earned money, made travel plans and set aside time to be there. The fact that you continue to show up for me means more than I can put into words, and I never want to take that for granted or lose the trust we’ve built together.

Other Shows Remain On Schedule

Importantly, Smith clarified that this cancellation applies solely to the Vancouver date due to the timing of the family appointments. All subsequent concerts are proceeding according to the original schedule.

I also want to reassure everyone with tickets for the shows after Vancouver that this decision is specific to this date because of those appointments. As things stand, the rest of the shows are going ahead as planned, and I can’t wait to see you. Thank you for your understanding, your patience, and for always supporting me. It truly means the world.

A History of Thoughtful Decisions

In a follow-up message, Smith reflected on his career trajectory and the rarity of show cancellations throughout his journey. Over the previous four years, he has performed at more than 400 venues, with only four cancellations in total—all attributed to circumstances beyond his control.

I will always try to be as open and transparent with you as I can. I respect you all too much not to be. I would never cancel a show unless I absolutely had to.

He acknowledged that some fans might feel frustrated or disappointed, validating their feelings while also requesting understanding. Smith noted that he is not seeking sympathy, but rather wants to provide as much clarity as possible while respecting the privacy of his family situation.

I don’t say that to make excuses, but to show you how seriously I take the commitment of showing up for you. I’ve already seen some of the frustration and disappointment, and I completely understand it. If you’d booked time off, travelled, or spent money to be there, I’d feel exactly the same.

Smith’s next performance is set for Sacramento, California, on Tuesday evening. His United Kingdom tour begins in Kingston on October 1 and concludes in London on November 20.

The artist has gained considerable recognition for his 2024 hit singles “Stargazing” and “Nice To Meet You.” His achievements include three Brit Award nominations in 2025, along with winning the prestigious Rising Star award.
