The 52-year-old performer explained that surgical intervention remains on hold because her tumors have failed to reduce in dimensions despite treatment efforts.

A Difficult Diagnosis and Ongoing Treatment

The actress and vocalist first received her diagnosis back in April of this year. Since that pivotal moment, she has maintained an open dialogue with followers through regular social media posts, offering transparency about her chemotherapy sessions and what lies ahead in her recovery timeline.

Most recognized for her portrayal of Maxine Peacock across the decades-long ITV drama series, Shaw took to Instagram on Thursday to share an intimate video following her most recent ultrasound examination. The recording captured her departing from the hospital, visibly emotional as she addressed her audience directly.

“As I told you all, I had my ultrasounds today to find out if (my) lesions had shrunk. I also needed to check a lump that I’d found on the other breast, the right breast.”

While Shaw expressed relief that the concerning lumps she discovered were indeed cysts, she acknowledged that the therapy aimed at reducing the lesions on her left side fell short of expectations. Rather than decreasing in overall size, the growths simply shifted from a circular shape to an oval form.

“I thought they’d shrunk but basically they’ve gone from being circular to oval, but not really shrunk in size. I don’t know what I was expecting,” the actress shared candidly.

Hope for the Future

Shaw reflected on her emotional state, noting she had anticipated some form of positive response from her body given everything it had endured. She suggested that additional treatment cycles might ultimately prove sufficient, though she emphasized that doctors cannot proceed with surgery until the lesions demonstrate meaningful reduction.

“Maybe a few more rounds will be all it takes but I know they can’t operate until they shrink it. So I thought I would give you a live update this time. I was just expecting some… miraculous miracle. Maybe it’s to come.”
